So having been unemployed for over a year since graduating with a degree in Economics from the prestigious University of Colorado at Boulder (:P), I realise now that having a Gen Ed degree in a struggling economy is basically useless so I'm returning to my roots and relearning programming.
I'm basically writing this blog for myself as a way to keep me motivated while I undertake the challenge of going from a complete n00b to web developer in 120 days. If anyone does start reading this, maybe you can offer up some advice as I am basically firing shots in the dark here and have no idea how to make this happen. If not, at least if I am successful in becoming a web developer, maybe this will serve as some disjointed instruction manual for others who wish to become web developers in the future.
My experience in programming is currently limited to Java, C++, C, some HTML, and no experience with databases or frameworks. The plan is to learn Ruby, then move on to Ruby on Rails, and then figure out where to go from there. I'd also like to learn PHP and Drupal just for the sake of being more employable but for the moment I plan on focusing on RoR.
Today is set as Day 1 with a proposed completion date of August 12th, 2011. Hopefully I won't need to inflate that 120 day deadline but who knows. I don't know if I will keep up on this blog but I'm going to try. Wish me luck and off we go.
